Matthew MacManes, this is a reminder for

Calendar: Bio Events
This workshop is one in a series of Tree of Life workshops, co-sponsored by the Cyberinfrastructure for Phylogenetic Research project. The short courses in the series are intended to provide an introduction to phylogenetics and related tree of life principles; no prior knowledge is necessary. Course fee $35/$50
Phylogenetic trees are the cornerstone of comparative biological research, and the use of DNA sequences to reconstruct relationships among species has revolutionized systematic biology. During this workshop, you will be introduced to the concepts of gene trees and species trees and a variety of tools for visualizing population level phylogenetic data. Case studies showcasing current research being conducted on reptiles and amphibians at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology will be used to illustrate these ideas, and will include studies of 1) phylogeography, 2) conservation genetics, 3) genomics, and 4) species limits.
All guest speakers are Ph.D. candidates in the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and Department of Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley and use reptiles and/or amphibians as model systems for their dissertation research.
